Trenchless methods for a modern FTTX infrastructure

Summary

A high-performance fibre optic network is the backbone of digitalization and currently one of the top infrastructure issues worldwide.

Unfortunately, broadband expansion is not progressing as quickly as necessary in many places. This is partly due to the high cost of laying fiber optic cables and partly due to the length of time required for civil engineering work. However, costs and time do not have to be a brake on investment in network expansion if trenchless technologies are used.

Whether backbone or last mile, with future-oriented NODIG systems, fiber optic networks are expanded quickly and cost-effectively to the end customer's connection.

The presentation provides an overview of trenchless construction methods and describes their application and how they differ from one another.

The following methods are presented in detail:

  • HDD flush drilling method

  • Earth rockets (soil displacement method)

  • Directional pressing method (soil displacement method)

  • Mini-HDD flush drilling systems
